South West Grid for Learning – Swiggle
Swiggle is the easy-to-use, ad-free search engine designed specifically for kids! Powered by Google, Swiggle encourages children to use the internet responsibly. Harmful content and inappropriate material is consistently filtered with educational resources being prioritised in online results. In the last year, Swiggle had over 1,000,000 users.
Swiggle takes the best bits from Google Safesearch but significantly differs in how it filters content. As younger children are notorious for misspelling words, Swiggle helps them avoid searching for inadvertent terms that may cause harm or unnecessary shock.
SWGfL continuously work to filter out any content that may be upsetting, however, users can also report any material they deem inappropriate. If we find content to be harmful, we will automatically block it from Swiggle.
Swiggle is the ideal search engine for home and at school. Teachers and parents alike can set Swiggle as their default home page to ensure children are safe in their online activity whilst actively promoting education.
Swiggle is a perfect step forward for young people starting their internet experience.
Spelling Beats CIC – Spelling Beats
Spelling Beats is a whole-school spelling practice program based around the cool concept of DJ’ing. Pupils become a Master Mixer or a Superstar DJ as they Beat the BPM and MC the Rule in order to compete against other DJs on the leaderboard. Spelling has never sounded so good!
Spelling Beats is student-led and can be accessed at home and school. Teachers (and parents) can sit back and relax by monitoring engagement and progress, whilst celebrating weekly DJ leaderboard success.
The My Spelling feature offers an inclusive, gap plugging approach to spelling; perfect for catching up lower ability pupils and challenging the more able. At Spelling Beats, no DJ is left behind!
Our games use spelling rules, common exception words and statutory word lists from the DfE English Spelling Appendix. Pupils also learn key grammar rules and word meanings.
