Company of the Year (more than £12m)
Classroom and student safety software provider Impero places the universal need for digital infrastructure in schools at the heart of its vision. After finding success with its Education Pro software, the company embarked on a journey to develop a more comprehensive, cloud-based solution that would prevent student safeguarding issues before they escalated. Its solutions focus on giving teachers and safeguarding staff full visibility, no matter if students are learning from home or in the classroom.
The company also recognises how fundamental this software is to schools in the age of digitalisation, no matter their financial situation. For this reason, Impero provide the management hub, Backdrop – the only free safeguarding software solution in the UK.
Following their launch in 2021, Impero’s flagship Classroom and Wellbeing solutions have generated £8.7 million in opportunities. Off the back of the company’s high-profile 2021 software launch and appearance at the 2022 BETT exhibition, Impero’s revenue for the first half of 2022 came in at £12.2 million, a 49% increase year-on-year.
IRIS Education helps good schools become great, with best-of-breed products that connect people with data, enabling educators to make informed decisions, and improving outcomes for pupils. One of the UK’s largest private software companies, IRIS leverages outstanding technology to bring best practice to its education offer. Over 12,000 UK schools and academies trust IRIS Education to support all aspects of how they run, report, communicate, and handle payments.
Constantly innovating, earlier this year IRIS Education launched IRIS Central, a powerful cloud-based tool that enables schools within MATs to supercharge critical in-the-moment decision making. This innovative approach also stretches beyond products by helping educators with challenging issues; the ‘School of Thought’ campaign delivers events and content on topics including mental health and the cost-of-living crisis.
IRIS Education is driven by the desire to improve the life chances of those in education by supporting educators. With products fit for wherever a school is on their journey, IRIS Education offers a complete solution for all stages. Doing things differently, this is a business that understands the shifting education landscape and the direction of travel, so schools and trusts have the support they need now and in the future.
LGfL – The National Grid for Learning
LGfL not only recognises the importance of fast, secure, resilient, broadband to schools, but also that that is only the beginning of the service they need, which includes professional development for everyone, high quality resources for teaching and learning, and safeguards to promote online safety and promote wellbeing.
Our 99% retention rate demonstrates how our community of schools appreciate the service we provide, and our steady growth shows that others continue to want to join. We are clearly getting a lot right. But we are not complacent, always looking for innovative approaches to empower and accelerate edtech in teaching and learning.
We ensure that the savings available through an LGfL subscription more than cover its cost, even whilst upgrading connections and providing a comprehensive service. The procurement at scale made possible through being part of our community of schools provides even greater savings. However, there is no scrimping when it comes to the advice, resources and training on offer, as much to teachers and technicians, as to senior managers and administrators.

*Futuresource Consulting, Q2 2022
In these strange, post-pandemic times it can be easy to lose sight of what is most important – but at Renaissance we have always put people first. From our thousands of customers to our global workforce, we continue to broaden and deepen our commitment to those we serve. Over the past year we have supported teachers and students with free access to remote learning platforms, digital books and articles, bespoke reporting, and challenged them to think about ‘everyday’ maths through a fun competition. We have also helped to inform learning recovery using insights from our assessment-based research with EPI (Education Policy Institute) for the DfE (Department for Education) and shone a light on What Kids Are Reading with our annual report – giving away thousands of physical books in the process. We added new, and enhanced existing, products and reaffirmed our focus on customer success. All the while strengthening our commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and staff wellbeing, making the most of opportunities to celebrate together, and preparing the way for significant product enhancements in the year ahead. Continuing our mission to ‘Accelerate Learning for All’.
