Come and discover the magic of Welsh legends and myths through the medium of BSL.
Since 2022, Wales is the first country in the UK to include British Sign Language (or BSL) in its Curriculum. ‘BSL Storytime’ puts BSL at the forefront of the storytelling. Commissioned especially by the Welsh government, its aim is to help fill the ‘gap’ in BSL educational resources.
Produced by Atebol and Deaf Friendly for Welsh Government, this collection of 36 videos is a unique one of a kind resource. It supports the national cross-cutting theme in the Curriculum for Wales. Aimed at progression steps 1-3, the stories are appropriate for ages 5-11.
The videos also feature striking images from the original storybooks, published by some of Wales’s leading publishers. One of the books, ‘Gelert’, written by renowned musician and broadcaster, Cerys Matthews, is narrated brilliantly by the multi-talented Welsh author in both languages.
Cerys said: “I’m delighted that my children’s storybook, ‘Gelert’ is now available in BSL too. I loved voicing the story in Welsh and English and watching it being interpreted in BSL for the first time. And best of all, it’s free for everyone to watch on the Welsh government ‘Hwb’ website.”
Canva – Canva for Education
Canva for Education is an all-in-one visual communication platform that is 100% free for K-12 teachers, students, and their entire school and staff. C4E is designed to be integrated with classroom teaching and help empower students to develop critical skills for the future, including visual communication, digital collaboration, creativity and visual literacy.
Teachers should think of Canva for Education as their own virtual classroom, where they can have conversations about work, help to clarify tasks as they go, leave students to work amongst themselves and submit completed work, as well as provide feedback for assignments, all in the same place.
Earlier this year, Canva introduced “Canva for Districts,” a free new offering within Canva for Education designed to streamline workflow and spur creativity at the school district level. Canva has also been thoughtful and intentional about safely bringing AI into classrooms for student use. Unlike other generative AI tools, Canva does not retain any information shared by students and teachers. As a result, teachers have been able to use Canva for Education to introduce AI into lessons on their own terms and start upskilling students in something that’s going to become increasingly ubiquitous with how work is done.
Centre for Literacy in Primary Education – National Poetry Centre for Primary Schools
CLPE is the National Poetry Centre for Primary Schools. Through our website we provide an extensive bank of resources aimed at Primary School Teachers to support them in their teaching of poetry.
Our resources include:
– Videos of poet performances and interviews which bring poets into the classroom, immediately engaging children with poetry.
– Poetry lesson plans based on research into best practice for the teaching of poetry to support children’s developing literacy, designed to support the needs of all children.
– A bank of poems for teachers to choose from and use with their children.
All of the CLPE poetry resources are free to access under our Free Membership plan. Once a year, we also run CLiPPA (Centre for Literacy in Primary Poetry Award) the only award solely presented for published poetry for children in the UK. As part of the process, groups and individual children can pick a poem that they have particularly enjoyed and film a performance of this to submit to the shadowing scheme judges. The judges pick a winner for each collection, who will then be invited to perform at the award ceremony, and tickets to the ceremony are available for free to all schools that have registered.

Explorify – STEM Learning/Primary Science Teaching Trust
Explorify is a very popular, simple to use, free digital resource created to support UK primary and early years teachers to teach science confidently and to spark pupils’ curiosity. Its overall aim is to improve the quality of primary science teaching and learning in the UK by giving teachers the knowledge and tools to deliver science with confidence and stimulate curiosity, discussion and debate in the classroom.
Explorify contains over 800 activities, linked to the national curricula of the 4 UK nations, which require minimal preparation and provide helpful advice and science background knowledge for teachers. They are based on research evidence from the highly successful programme, ‘Thinking, Doing, Talking Science’, which encourages pupils to think and talk like scientists.
The activities use images, videos, sound clips and key questions in a creative way to allow all pupils to articulate their ideas through discussion which makes lessons focussed, sociable and fun. They can be used in a variety of ways, such as a starter to begin a conversation to engage pupils about a science topic and gather the level of pupils’ prior knowledge, or a question that improves pupils’ observation and communication skills.
