In 2022, we became the first exam board to provide International GCSE students with high-stakes exams onscreen rather than on paper.
65% of teachers and school leaders we surveyed suggested they’d be ready to move to onscreen assessment within four years, so we partnered with six schools and their 600 students across the globe to trial onscreen Pearson Edexcel GCSE (9–1) English Language exams.
The journey to exam day involved working with schools and technology in innovative ways:
supporting at every step – from technology setup to guidance and materials that ensured students and teachers had confidence in the platform and in demonstrating skills, knowledge and understanding onscreen
evolving existing services to make onscreen exams a reality – from our onscreen Mocks Service to build familiarity, to ResultsPlus to deliver feedback analysis and insights digitally, to help teachers and students get exam-ready.
Every student completed their onscreen exams successfully – testament to the technology, support and collaboration on the pilot. And 90% of students in the trial stated they thought their school should offer onscreen assessment in future. As a result, onscreen assessment is now available for all schools taking Pearson Edexcel International GCSE (9–1) English qualifications.

In 2018, instrumental music teacher Ross Garrod founded Practice Pal because music education was broken. Everything was chaotic. There was next to no visibility into how music education works. Parents were perpetually out of the loop, and students were giving up on learning their instruments in droves. Practice Pal set out to answer all of these problems. Since launching, we have created an unprecedented and unrivalled ecosystem dedicated to music education. Our approach transforms how schools, teachers, parents, and students move through music education together, significantly impacting learning outcomes. Practice Pal implements the infrastructure to get everyone working together so that music students can unlock their full potential. When we started, there was an embarrassing lack of data on music education in schools and no path forward to correct that. Today, we are the only company that is laying the groundwork for music departments to comprehend and communicate the value they bring to students’ lives. By digitising every aspect of the music education experience, we can turn activities into data assets that can be measured, understood, and acted upon. When those supporting a student work together, the sky’s the limit as to what that student can achieve.
